Finally, after so many times i kept on saying this movie is excellent and definitely one of the recommended Malaysian movie to all Malaysians, here i am with the full review.
I’ve watched this movie for over a year already. Afdlin Shauki has successfully incorporated the values (good and bad) of Malaysians in all of his penned, directed, produced and acted movies.
If i have to choose between Yasmin Ahmad and Afdlin on who is the most effective director and scriptwriter in showcasing the real Malaysia to the world, my vote will definitely go to Afdlin. Both are great talents in Malaysia but Afdlin is better as his movies are all more to the reality while Yasmin’s masterpieces are leaned towards to ‘utopia’.

INTRODUCTION
Baik Punya Cilok came out two years earlier before Sumolah. Afdlin Shauki again proved his mettle in this movie as he is the script-writer, actor and director for Baik Punya Cilok. Besides that, he penned the lyrics for the themesong and sings it with his three other main actors - Hans Issac, Awie and AC Mizal.
Baik Punya Cilok can be loosely translated as “One Good Heist” or “One Good Steal”, depending to your interpretation to the movie title.
I watched this movie not in cinema because i downloaded from the internet. I was craving for this movie once i saw Afdlin’s first two movies; Buli and Buli Balik. That two movies were excellent as it focused on the society’s impression on fat and depressed individuals. Afdlin demonstrated that he is a talent not to be missed out by Malaysians with simple but yet in-depth meanings in all of his dialogues.
Baik Punya Cilok is a light-hearted comedy and those who watch it will surely laugh non-stop with sensible jokes created by the actors and actresses in the movie. A lot of national issues were highlighted in the movie but not in a direct way as Afdlin wants the viewers to think and relate to it. Along and samseng cultures featured prominently in this movie. One of the negative culture highlighted by Afdlin was the Budaya Skodeng (Stalking aka Peeping Tom culture) but in a hillarious way. Fishing activities were introduced as well in this movie. I really like this movie and the themesong is a stunner! Listen to the themesong and you will like it immediately with its catchy and wonderful lyrics!
With the tagline, “Lu Cilok Gua, Gua Cilok Lu”, which means “You Steal Mine, I’ll Steal Yours”, Baik Punya Cilok gets two thumbs-up from me!
Definitely, a not-to-be-missed Malaysian movie! This movie is primarily in Bahasa Malaysia but heavily laced with English, Manglish and Cantonese.
Look out for the movie trailer. It is worth mentioning here. Afdlin presented this trailer in the most selamba way and there is not even a single scene from the movie was shown. All the four main casts can be summed up as Syok Sendiri in the trailer. A must-see trailer.
Last but not least, Afdlin gave another breakthrough dimension in this movie by narrating the storyline ala Dikir Barat by using a fish as the compere with his voice can be heard background in a digitally-enhanced sound.
SYNOPSIS
Baik Punya Cilok follows the adventures (you can call it misadventures too!) of four friends - Aben, Jerry, Bob KP and Wak - in their quest to retrieve Wak’s brooch (of which is a family heritage) from the unscrupulous pawnshop owner, Tauke Wong in the most daring scheme.
The four of them knows each other through their hobbies of fishing. Each of them had a nickname. Aben is known as Kaki Skodeng for his speciality to fix hidden cameras and microphones during lecture lessons and sell the videos for students who skipped classes. Aben is a veteran student as he always faint during a critical moment especially exam therefore he always stuck with teenagers in his class. Jerry is known as Kaki Belit and he is car dealer who always bet on Formula 1 races. His favourite F1 driver is Rubens Barrichello. Bob KP also known as Kaki Pukul works in a karaoke lounge as the big bully but actually a softie as he cries when reading romance novels. Wak is known as Kaki Pancing works as a cinema attendant whose brooch was cheated by Tauke Wong. He is engaged to Nazatul and the brooch is the wedding dowry.
On the other hand, Tauke Wong is not only a pawnshop owner but also headed various groups of gangsters (only words from Tauke Wong but never been shown). He is a blind man but wicked and cruel when dealing with people who failed to pay the mortgage. Tauke Wong is assisted by Malik who was raised up by him. Malik is equally cruel and heartless too. Tauke Wong’s daughter Lina is hell bent on ‘cleaning up’ the pawnshop from any gangster activities when her father hands over the business to her.
The story starts when Wak pawned the brooch at Tauke Wong’s shop to get money for emergency. A month later when Wak wants to redeem the brooch, he was shocked when Tauke Wong told him the amount needed to get back the brooch has skyrocketed beyond Wak’s financial abilities. It was clear that Tauke Wong deliberately cheated Wak but Wak couldn’t do anything as the mortgage stipulations favour Tauke Wong. Disgusted and angry, Wak left the pawnshop and swore revenge on Tauke Wong. Later, Wak meets up with his three friends and another long-time friend Leman to relate his problems with them. All of them knew Tauke Wong is cruel when it comes to the business dealings in his pawnshop but they cannot do anything about it as Tauke Wong has a lot of henchmen doing all of his dirty works. But the four friends decided to rob Tauke Wong just to retrieve back the brooch for Wak’s pending marriage to Nazatul.
Leman came out with an even more greater plan which is not only rob the brooch but also the whole shop. The four friends disagreed with Leman’s plan because their intentions are to teach Tauke Wong a lesson and to get back the brooch. Never cross in their minds to rob the shop. Leman relented and agreed with the original plan.
As the four friends are gearing up for their big day to rob the brooch from Tauke Wong, they went under rigorous but funny trainings on how to become robbers while Leman looks at the other end. The four friends even read a lot of motivational and psychological books to prepare themselves for any circumstances. Law books were read by them too just in case they got caught by the police then they at least will know how many years they will spend behind the bars.
Strategies were carefully devised by five of them to ensure successful heist over Tauke Wong. Few days before their big day, Leman pulled out from the team citing he is not ready and able to help them because he is scared. So the four friends proceed with their plans without Leman.
Finally the big day arrived. Aben, Bob and Wak will be the robbers while Jerry is their driver. Just as the three stormed into the pawnshop with their faces covered by stockings and vegetable-crafted weapons, they were shocked as some people robbed the shop first and police were on the scene to gather evidence. With that, the three of them were caught in the act and their intelligence were questioned by the police on how on earth they rob a shop twice in a day.
Jerry was lucky not to be caught but Aben, Bob and Wak suspected him for selling them out as he is heavily in debt over his bettings on F1 races. But for them, Jerry is their only hope to clear their names and get them out from jail.
Jerry promised to them that he will find the robbers. He found out that Leman sold them out by assisting Malik to rob Tauke Wong’s shop. Malik is even more cruel than Tauke Wong as he dares to rob the shop. Jerry collaborated with Lina to get the robbers. After their names were cleared from suspicions, Aben, Bob and Wak were released from jail and determined to put out Malik for the sufferings they had to endure.
In the final showdown, Malik was shot dead while Tauke Wong and Lina was injured by gunshot wounds. The four friends had their revenge and also the jackpot for catching the most-sought fish that comes with RM25 000 reward.
